That’s right - five days to go until the first batch of our finalists take to the stage at London’s ULU – with the nail-biting task of impressing our judges, their fans and millions of viewers to grab a place in the next round.
Will this year’s crop of artists deliver sterling live performances in front of our cameras and the world… or die trying?
In five days we’ll also discover the identity of out first celebrity guest panelist who’ll be casting an eye over our acts. Will they be charming, polite and courteous, or mischievous unruly and uncontrollable – and will the artists behave themselves too?
We’ll also find out just how much Alex James hates singer-songwriters – and if our security will be needed to hold him back.
We know some of you are getting restless – you really want to know who the finalists are. To reiterate what we’ve said in earlier posts, the final acts will be revealed after all checks have been carried out to ensure they’re all eligible. We understand why you’re restless; and we’re not doing this to be cruel – we have to do everything by the book… so keep your toys in the pram and play nice!
If you want to keep your finger on the pulse of Orange unsignedAct and discover all the juiciest details from the auditions before it’s aired on TV– you’ll just have to be there. So check our previous blog here, work out how many tickets you and your mates need and visit www.sroaudiences.com

I would suggest that the reason All That's Left's post is still up, is that the peeps running this site aren't actually interested in reading these comments anymore.
I don't buy the checking out the bands smokescreen to be honest, this might have been true for a few days but how long would it take an organisation as big as Orange or Channel 4 to do this.
I suspect they have their own reasons for the delay which most likely has something to do with the best time to release the news that will have the biggest commercial / financial / advertising benefit for the company.

lets face it, anyone who takes pride in what they do will always feel they need to work on their act. my audition was short and sweet with no real critique feedback (apart from nodding, smiling and bouncing along to my tune and for some reason musing over whether rosa or rosie was the more interesting name). thousands of bands cant be useless and it would be unreasonable to see each of them in a proper live situation. therefore, subjectivity aside, who can possibly say that one of the THOUSANDS of bands that didn't get through would not be better than some of the final lot. as for me. i know i rock! my mum told me ; )

Why do you feel like you have to investigate the bands that got through? I know you got played on some radio stations and some done some gigs but come on! you've got enough to concern yourself with, your bands could really do with some work, hence why you didn't get chosen. Do you not think you should maybe put some positive energy into making your efforts actual business oppotunities rather than trying to find flaws in this competition. I understand you didn't get through and this has hurt your ego's but belive me it's best someone tells you now so you can do something about it. I understand that all of your friends and family are probably full of praises for your music but unfortunatley you shouldn't belive it. CHOP CHOP Get over it and stop being so bitter.

Bird Flu: Are you and Lucid the same person or something? You seem to post at the same times and have identical opinions...
To answer Lucid's questions:
1) No, we do not plan on "ruining" this for anyone else, as you so eloquantly put it. Svein93 plans on reviewing bands, but that's it. If any bands slip through the cracks, good luck to them!!! If we could have slipped through the cracks, we certainly wouldn't have look happily upon acts who ruined it for us. We have no problems with ANY of the bands that have gotten through.
2) As far as financial backing, that is part of our management contract, and according to the Orange rules, Management contracts that were in place before the competition started are fine.
Allow us to reiterate...
We don't have any problem with Orange, Universal, Princess TV, the other bands, Jesus or anything. We just believe that there have been organisational issues with the competition and hope that the organisers have seen, learned and will improve for next year.

ah lucid - wondered where you'd got to - we dont really understand your problem with torn - you seem to have misunderstood every one of their posts - now let us make this CLEAR - we will be checking on all of the finalists to make sure that there has been no funny business - as we have said before it seems unlikely that if you have enough fans to win the vote that you wouldn't have tried some on-line comp or scheme (like slice...) in order to raise your profile - similarly the 29 picked by the panel - who presumably are gigging serious musicians might also have done the same - thus causing a headache for orange - none of this is sour grapes - merely a matter of being sure that no-one has been treated unfairly - win or lose
we - like torn asunder signed up to slice the pie after reading a blog on here - thus unknowingly disqualifying ourselves - unlike torn - we were not phoned by orange etc....

btw. Dont forget that the last few in the comp have an `option' contract with Universal. So if you don't win, and you are good enough, you may get signed anyway. Never understood why orange don't make more of this. To us thats one of the reasons this comp stands head and shoulders above anything else out there.
Torn Asunder says:
Hey Duke... The only problem with your theory is it does imply an "unfair" competition that is rigged in favour of a particular band. If this is the case, then the entire thing would be a waste of time, and they may as well cancel the contest and A&M Records could just sign the artits.
Shoot the Duke says:
Bet Sam wished he had stayed at home today. lol.
Right, time for another theory.
Initial delays were because of the sheer volume of entries. Approx 2000 last year, 7000 this year.
Further delays were caused by the rapidly changing face of the music business re. releasing material. What does unsigned actually mean?
Problems were excaserbated (yea, I know, I can't spell) by a poorly designed website (last years was brilliant).
Further delays are being caused because orange have found a band(s) that will blow you all away.
Lets face it, if the bands with contractural problems were nothing special, it would be a simple case of orange saying, sorry guys we have a problem with your current deal, as they have already done to some bands.
end of theory

I don't envy Orange, as they have sorta been a victim of their success, so to speak.
One of the things that we were told, when discussing Slice the Pie, was the the Channel 4 Lawyers had stated ineligability, and one of the reasons being that "if a band on Slice the Pie got through, then another band might complain..." However, IF the Slice the Pie thing had not been made a big deal about in the first place, I doubt that there would have been anything said by any of the bands.
Because heels have been dragged on this, bands and fans of bands that haven't got through are, as someone else pointed out, will be investigating all the bands to see if they are indeed eligable, according to Princess TV.
As the time goes on, this really is going to cheapen it for those who were successful, as there are a lot of people who just can't be bothered with it now, and that's a shame for the successful artits!

............Its all very well for Orange to say they are doing checks and for us to "Play Nice" but apparently, it's not ok for orange to show due respect for (like Torn Assunder said, I think) the time and effort made by all of the acts.
Personally, I want to know how a particular act has done,or even if they have been listened to. I never expected to see global dommination, or stadium tours from this for them, just a fair chance to compete in a competition that is run professionally. This could be achieved by providing a date as to when we will know more, and that date being adhered to.
I don't think this is unreasonable, or should be particularly difficult to acheive by a competition that has multi-national backing.

warcraft says:
Didn't have this problem last year. It was an unsigned competition for unsigned bands. If you had a contract you were out (Gilkicker). Simple enough.
You can bet that once the winners are announced every band who has been disqualified for being 'signed' will be checking to see whether the bands selected have released anything, and who they released it through.
Thw winner of orangeunsigned this year is.......the one whose got the best lawyer.
On another matter. Whats wrong with a good moan? Fair enough, if you are moaning about not getting through, you deserve a bit of stick. But if you are having a moan about elements of the competition, why not. Artists all agreed the terms and conditions when entering, i.e. none of the artists can now sign with anyone else for a few months; yet orange have not stuck to their side of the deal as detailed by 50ft Woman. So why shouldnt we give orange a bit of stick. I dont think they are going to lose any sleep over it, are they?
50ft Woman says:
I too have come back every day to check the results. I think one of the main problems is that is doesn't seem to matter HOW big a 'name' is in these competitions - Road to V, Orange, whoever, it NEVER seems to go as it should. There is always some element of disappointment.
Not disappointment from the fact you didn't get through .. that goes without saying, of course, in everything, there will be winners and losers. Disappointment from the fact that certain things on this site were frustrating from the start! The site kept crashing, it was impossible to get certain bits of feedback as in - how many visitors, how many votes, how many listens - all the things bands like to know!! yes there are ways to comment on the profiles, but no way for bands to comment back. And only having a news blog that people could comment on, meant it became an unofficial forum.
Then voting didn't open when it was meant to, which meant that bands/artists who had done press and mailshots galore to get fans and friends at it got pretty frustrated. And there is nothing worse than getting feedback from a fan who tried to vote but couldn't because the site crashed, or it wasn't clear enough HOW to vote or that it just didn't let them log in!! You DO take all these things personally, when someone who likes your music has taken the time out to show their support, but can't!
Then not being able to announce the last 50 BEFORE the last chance auditions .. that just seems silly.
I totally understand the minefield of contractual blah blah that must need to be discussed with these things, but perhaps a better clarification of terms and conditions in the beginning would mean a clearer way to announce finalists in the end - like if you have signed up to this this or this, then there MAY be problems in the end.
And don't forget, like Torn Asunder said, just because we are in bands or are artists, it doesn't mean we are not fans, it doesn't mean we don't have bands that we want to get through and show OUR support to.
I don't think it is sour grapes .. just frustration!!

Believe me... this ain't sour grapes. We have not been "moaning" as you like to point out. If you cared to read the post PROPERLY, you would have seen that our point was that A LOT of people (not just us) has put in a lot of time and effort into this competition, and the lack of regular information is frustrating. Speaking as a music fan, there are some bands that I am really curious if they got through (Polaris and Shelta to name 2) and want to show support if they did.
We didn't get through... disappointed? Sure? Bitter? Nope! Why? Because we're no worse off than we were when this started. In fact, we're better off. We have more fans, met cool people and are more well known than we were when we started. However, that doesn't mean that we're not going to speak our mind.

Hi Sam:
We can understand the hassles of doing all of the checks. However, I think PrincessTV need to understand that a lot of people dedicated a lot of time to this competition, and you have asked the bands that are through NOT to say anything... We know this for a fact as we were asked when it looked like we might be through. The initial 50 was decided by the 19th September. It's been 11 days and still no word. I'm sure Orange can appreciate the frustration, especially the fans who are desperate to know if their fave band made it.
And this is not sour grapes on our part. Just pointing out what we have noticed.
